Kathryn will be releasing her second solo album in the fall of 2019, tentatively titled “Masked”, which will feature solo improvised material largely informed by her dissertation research. This recording was made possible by the generosity of the Region of Waterloo Arts Fund.

Kathryn successfully completed her PhD at York University. Her dissertation, titled “The Improvising Musician’s Mask: Using Musical Instruments to Build Self-Confidence and Social Skills in Collective Free Improvisation” was nominated for a university-wide dissertation prize.

Kathryn was awarded a Region of Waterloo Arts Fund grant to collaborate with visual artist Isabella Stefanescu and percussionist Dave Klassen on a new project for bass clarinet, percussion, and euphonopen called, “Learning to See”. Learn more about the Region of Waterloo Arts Fund here.

Kathryn brought the International Society for Improvised Music conference to Canada for the first time!
